Children's table with their own hands
Children grow up so quickly that parents often do not have time to respond to their needs. Here the baby is ready to eat on his own, and then engage in creative work - to draw, sculpt, make applications. It's time to get extra furniture! If you want to save a little or just create something, you can make a children's table with your own hands.
What are the?
The key role in how the table will be is played, of course, by the child’s age and the purpose of the piece of furniture. The table can be designed only for food, and can also be a place for creativity, educational activities, one of the key components in the composition of the nursery or kitchen.
Here are the following options:
- simple small desk with a suitable in size chair;
- folding table which can be removed to have more space for outdoor games;
- folding table which will be relevant for small apartments;
- "Growing" table with a rising tabletop - this can serve the kid to school.
For the student fit desk. It should be large enough for it to fit books, stationery, a lamp - and there is a lot of space left in order to write comfortably and correctly. For children from 7 to 17 years old you can do:
- simple party;
- school desk with a rising lid;
- folding desk attached, for example, to a bookcase.
It is noteworthy that it is for older children of preschool and school age that the presence of shelves, drawers, pencil coasters or cans with accessories for creativity will be most relevant.
When the idea is approved by the family council, it is worth thinking about consumables. Children's furniture should be made from natural and environmentally friendly materials. The product must be strong enough, because you never guess what comes to the child in the head.
The material should be easily processed so that it does not leave scratches, irregularities, slivers, for which the baby can catch. Ideally, the table you made can be easily decorated.
Ideas for inspiration
Everything is clear with a wooden table - you need to make a drawing, buy or find a material, make furniture. But there are several unusual options that will save the family budget and make the interior unusual and memorable.
For the very smallest, you can make a table out of ... cardboard! He usually looks like a breakfast table in bed - he has small legs. At such a table, as a rule, the child sits directly on the floor or on the couch. Such furniture will be enough for the first time - for the very first creative activities of the baby.
Need to take a big cardboard box (from the TV or refrigerator) and cut to the shape of the tabletop - rectangular or with rounded corners. Such "table tops" need to be made 4 or 5 in order to glue them together and get a sufficiently strong and thick table. Holes are made in the corners that are equal in diameter, for example, to sleeves from rolls of toilet paper. Sleeves are tightly inserted into the holes, acting as legs. The top of the table can then be pasted over with plain paper or a self-adhesive film with a bright pattern.
The most creative parents can paint home-made furniture with colors or decorate using decoupage technique.
Very original and stylish furniture (including children's) is obtained from old pallets and wooden boxes.. The bottom line is that many of the details in them are already glued / knocked down among themselves - they only need to be sanded and painted. Even if you have to disassemble the source material on the boards, they will be perfectly flat in size, which means that working with them is much less.
It is very easy to decorate such furniture: for example, to paint each board in any color. Get a bright multi-colored table. You can close the tabletop with glass - this will give the table a special charm.
The child can "give" and the old coffee table. It is enough to paint it with bright colors or give the child to paint it yourself.
If we are talking about a table for a student, the simplest option is a folding one. This is a model for the lowly and economical.
If such a table is attached to a wall, it usually has a base that connects to the wall and makes the appearance more attractive. The table top is connected to the base with hinges, and on the back side there is a special fastener that allows the table to keep in a “working” state.
You can attach the tabletop directly to the bookcase - in this case, the hinges are attached to the end of one of the shelves (which is best suited for height). The main thing is to think over fasteners (it is best to use special triangular brackets) and the angle of incidence of the light so that classes at such a table take place without harm to the child's health.
The original and stylish table can be made from the old baby cot. To do this, just remove the front grille and set the bottom at the level at which it will be convenient for the child. Slatted bottom will need to block the plywood.
Such a table is placed only against the wall, but it fits well into the interior of the children's room and is very good for girls. The workplace is large enough, and hooks can be placed on the side walls and the back wall with slats. They will be located scissors and other office, as an option - materials for needlework. You can attach them to the hanging organizers for papers.
A more “adult” version is obtained if the removed front wall with the slats is installed below (as a shelf for papers), and the table top is made at the very top (of glass).
Materials
If you decide to make a full table of wood (plywood, chipboard, array), it is best to make a list of all necessary materials in advance.
Plywood is good for environmental friendliness and durability. It is easy to process and is successfully decorated. For children's furniture is best to take high-quality birch plywood without knots and irregularities. It is better not to take moisture-proof or veneered - it is treated with chemicals that evaporate into the air.
For work you will need:
• jigsaw;
• screws;
• liquid nails or other suitable glue;
• for decoration - water-based paints or polyurethane varnish.
The lack of plywood is its price. Such a table will ultimately be more expensive than the purchase version of plastic or composite materials.
More affordable options - chipboard or MDF. In the production of chipboard used chemicals, and in the production of MDF - not, therefore, chipboard is usually cheaper. The plates can be cut with saws, hacksaws, grinders and electric jigsaws. You will need screws, nails, glue, maybe - hinges or brackets. Do not forget to purchase plugs in the color of the table, which will help to hide mounting materials.Edging tape will make aesthetic all edge cuts.
The most eco-friendly and beautiful furniture is obtained, of course, from the array. For children, preferably beech, pine, birch.
Making a wooden table for a child
So, having decided on the model and purchased the materials, you can start working.. Drawings and diagrams can be downloaded on the Internet or viewed in reference publications. The main thing is that the dimensions are correctly indicated on them, the places for fasteners are marked and the recommended thickness of the boards is indicated - the strength of the furniture depends on it.
The easiest option - tabletop and 4 legs. For the legs you will need 4 bars with a thickness of 4 by 4 cm. Cut the table top of the size you need from the furniture panel. Alternatively, you can knock down 2 flat boards between them, and then cover the tabletop with plywood or a sheet of hardboard.
The legs will be screwed to the frame at the bottom of the tabletop. For this you need:
• Mark where the frame will be. To do this, you need to outline a rectangle on the back of the tabletop so that it retreated from its edge by 5 cm on each side.
• Place the future leg in the corner of the resulting rectangle and outline. Do this in each of the 4 corners.
• The frame should not reach the edges of the line exactly the width of the foot. The length of the bar for the frame on the long side is calculated as follows: the length of the tabletop minus 5 cm and minus the width of the leg. For a bar on the short side: the width of the table top is minus 5 cm and minus the width of the leg.
• Screw the frame bars to the worktop.
• Screw the legs to the frame.
• Sand table (first with coarse sandpaper, then fine-grained).
• Now the table can be varnished or paint with water-based paints.
For children's rooms, a table with folding legs (according to the principle of ironing board) is perfect: after the work is finished, it can be folded and put away so that it does not take up space and does not interfere with active games.
The easiest option is to make the tabletop of chipboard or plywood, decorate it, and screw in the finished metal folding legs at the bottom. You can buy them in the shops of furniture fittings.
If you want a completely wooden table, you can use a specific scheme.
A tabletop is cut out of the tree, as well as legs, foot supports and crossbars. The corners on the legs and legs need to be rounded with a jigsaw or other tool.
The legs with the supports are bolted.Then the crossbars are mounted. After that, the legs are fastened to the table top with self-tapping screws.
Remember that all parts must be properly ground.
