Choosing a professional mounting foam

 Choosing a professional mounting foam

Polyurethane foam is produced in the form of either material for the simplest needs of household repairs, or in the form of material for professional builders (pistol applications).

For professional installation, always use pistol foam exclusively for professional work. Household foam is only suitable for plugging holes after construction or for use in the country.

Criterias of choice

Consider what to look for when choosing a professional foam.

Of great importance is the production.

Such material is produced exclusively on high-tech equipment, therefore, a producer who has absolutely all technical knowledge and high-quality equipment can create and produce really good foam.

There are very few real manufacturers of foam in the world. But there are a lot of “contract soldiers”, they almost always hide the fact that the types of foams they sell are produced by them under a contract for a recipe. It is simple to distinguish them: in the marking of the cylinder, such material has no details about the original source - it is written just in what country this material is produced. This moment more determines quality.

The main rule: always buy foam from the manufacturer. It doesn't matter if it is unprofessional or intended for professionals.

Technical characteristics of such material is always much better.

Contract material is always of poor quality. The reason is simple: the owner of the brand produced under the contract is added to the trade system “Manufacturer - Wholesale distributor - Shop - End user”.

And to keep profits at the level of all the merchants from this chain becomes real only by increasing the total cash allowance, but if the retail price does not change, the goods will come to the end buyer worse than before they were added to the buy-sell system of the owner of the contract brand.

Conclusion: buying from "contract", you either overpay, or will have a foam an order of magnitude worse quality.

Manufacturers

Choose among manufacturers who have been in this market segment for quite a long time and are reliable.

Good reviews have all-season assembly foam "Imperial"produced by the corporation "TekhnoNIKOL", or professional polyurethane foam "TekhnoNIKOL" 65 Constant. Bostik PRO Standart 65 foam also showed itself well (for many years now). And Moment Installation PRO 65 All-Season foam foam 850 ml.

And also the mounting foam STAYER BlackPRO 65 has a lot of good feedback from professionals.

Foam production is a very high-tech multitasking process. This process is constantly evolving, because manufacturers need to adapt to changes in the market, and to the changing material of production, and to the organization of a rather dangerous production (combustible materials are used). Note that the production result is largely influenced by the production culture in any individual factory. After all, using the same recipes, it is impossible to obtain a completely similar foam in various plants.

Each of the manufacturers, of course, has its own merits, perhaps, and disadvantages.

It should be noted that large companies simultaneously have their advantages and disadvantages: they react very slowly to the demands of a constantly changing market, they have very poor control over the goods they produce, and constant competition and conflicts within firms are reflected in a constant increase in prices, therefore there is a constant cost savings.

There is an indisputable rule (as for most products, materials or services) - high quality is impossible with a low price of goods or services.

Quality can be 100 percent guaranteed only by the use in the production of expensive components that are used in the preparation and additional expenses for a stable, streamlined control of the entire production process and quality control.

Very often, consumers in our country reconcile themselves with very low quality installation pins, because, since Soviet times, there is a familiar sense of saving money due to low cost of production.

This is a 100% wrong approach.

Cheap materials have many negative characteristics, and together they will increase the price of the result. The main rule: if you get more material at the outlet of the cylinder, it means that the less money you pay for the entire volume.

The second basis for understanding the quality of a truly good foam is that low-cost components in manufacturing will never produce high-quality foam.

The most "popular" method used by manufacturers to reduce the cost - an increase among the components of ballast (usually chlorinated paraffins).

Most of the chloroparaffins makes the foam much heavier, as a result: the volume of the foam mass at the exit decreases, its hardening increases in time, and the expansion increases.

These and many other negative factors of the use of cheap material lead to the worst - the alteration of the entire installation.

Terms of use

The main external factors that have a great influence on the so-called foaming are product quality, humidity, temperature, and the instrument used.

For example, when there is little moisture in the air, the polymerization will take place rather prolonged in time.

The result will be too large pores. To avoid this, it is recommended to artificially add moisture to the assembly seam. The lowest humidity is usually in hot or cold weather.

At moderate humidity and air temperature, the results of installation are usually the most successful.

With the temperature factor, everything is more complicated, but solved. There are summer and winter materials, they are classified as one-component and two-component.

The one component foam is a polyurethane sealant.

Two-component polyurethane foam for builders of professional level is packaged in large containers, and it must be mixed in accurately measured parts before use, using a gun-mixer.

A nozzle is put on it, resulting in a fine-meshed, high-quality material.

Single component
Two component

Two-component foam is characterized by the ability to quickly harden and very high quality polymerization. Excess outside is removed with a knife after just ten minutes after spraying.

The main plus of a two-component foam is its increased output volume. But if we take into account the complexity of its preparation and application, as well as the high cost, we can conclude that it is advisable to use this foam only for professional work.

For the most part, the polymerization reaction occurs when it interacts with air; at the outlet we get polyurethane.

Frother - mixed in certain proportions liquefied butane, isobutane or propane (this substance is called a propellant). The resulting prepolymer creates foam, it increases in its volume twenty times.

Polyurethane foam can expand and fill places that have very difficult access. The material hardens pretty quickly due to the moisture contained in the atmosphere. During the day, everything freezes, turning into a stable composition.

The great advantage of this material is its strength and stability, as well as the absence of harmful components. The porous structure makes foam one of the best insulators.

Polyurethane foam is used to work with any material. This is a stone, and concrete, and iron, and wood, and plastic.

To summarize: which mounting foam is best to choose - domestic or, nevertheless, professional is better.

Household and professional foam are almost the same in terms of components, and for the majority of the works, both the first and second ones are perfect. Remember: never use simple foam for installing windows and doors.Do not forget to watch the GOST density, tension and its linear deformation (ask the experts for answers and explanations).
