Rubber coating for the garage: the pros and cons
Most car owners perceive their car as something more than just a means of transportation. Accordingly, the garage for them is not an ordinary room, but part of the house. Hence the desire to equip the garage so as to create comfort for both the owner and his car. Boring garage design is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Instead, modern car enthusiasts prefer techno-style. It is particularly appropriate to be rubber flooring garage.
Special features
Important when equipping the garage has the selection of the flooring, because the garage floor is subjected to impressive loads: the weight of the machine, the influence of rotating wheels and so on.
An ordinary concrete floor has a whole list of shortcomings: it crumbles, gathers dust, and becomes covered with cracks. To get rid of such problems, it is worth looking at modern materials with high quality.
The material for covering the garage floor must meet the following requirements:
- water tightness;
- fire safety;
- long service life;
- resistance to mechanical damage and exposure to aggressive chemical compounds.
Each item corresponds to a rubber coating. Its advantages:
- long service life (at least 15 years);
- resistance to various environmental factors;
- strength;
- wear resistance.
Also to the advantages of this coating include water resistance, provided water-repellent property, sound insulation, safety, versatility (suitable for both outdoor areas and closed premises), ease of maintenance and keeping the floor clean. At the same time, in order to cover the covering, the help of specialists is absolutely unnecessary - everything can be done by yourself.
The prefabricated coating must contain the threshold. Acrylic paint is suitable for painting such a product.
Species
There are such types of rubber floor:
- roll floor. The width of the rolls is 1.25 meters;
- bulk coating;
- carpet on the substrate with a sprinkling of rubber;
- sector floor.
Composition and manufacturing methods
The rubber garage floor is an isoprene-styrene synthetic rubber that has been thermally vulcanized. The material for the production of flooring in most cases is rubber crumb, which is characterized by high wear resistance and low cost. This material is the best choice if you are going to build a garage floor.
The size of the crumb rubber fraction used in the production of this coating is 1.5-5 millimeters. This material is obtained when recycling tires of cars. Rubber granules provide cushioning qualities.
The means by which small rubber fragments are joined is polyurethane glue. In certain situations, synthetic rubber is used as an additional filler. In order to color the coating, mineral pigments are added.
How to choose?
When selecting the floor, it is necessary to take into account the type of vehicle, as well as the possible presence of a heating system in the garage.For the arrangement of the garage floor enough canvas with a thickness of five millimeters. To date, produced sector and roll type coatings of rubber.
Sector
Sector floor is a tile with a thickness of 0.4-4 centimeters. It is characterized by resistance to abrasion, freezing, resistance to the effects of static, dynamic loads, vibration and aggressive chemical compositions. Damage to this tile is incredibly difficult, it is great for arranging the garage.
The color palette of this floor tile is quite diverse. At the moment, the most popular are bright colors. Manufacturers care not only about the strength characteristics of the coating, but also about its appearance.
For installation it is recommended to resort to the help of a professional. If we compare a sector floor with a roll one, then the first one compares favorably with its list of advantages.
For a start it is worth saying that a sector floor that has been damaged is fairly easy to repair: it is only necessary to replace the damaged segment. As for the roll floor, it will have to be changed by a strip.
To make laying sector coverage, there is no need to apply adhesive compositions, since it contains specialized fasteners. The maximum possible thickness of the segments is four centimeters.
Rolled
Materials for the manufacture of roll floor are used tires of cars. Due to the fact that they are made of high-quality rubber, the floor of such a material is characterized by resistance to abrasion and the influence of chemicals, as well as elasticity.
Roll coating is characterized by high strength and increased operational values, due to the material used in its manufacture and a special production method. Most often it is used when equipping garages.
Also for the roll floor is characterized by ease of laying and care.
Installation
As the basis for laying the flooring used screed of concrete. It is not necessary that it has a perfectly smooth surface. Before starting to lay the cover, the screed must be kept for at least 28 days.
The cement base on which the rubber coating is laid should have a slight slope directed at the garage door to ensure that the water flows.
Before you start laying tile or roll floor, you need to prepare the following tools:
- building roulette;
- brush or broom for removing debris;
- electric drill with a mixer nozzle;
- knife for cutting roll material;
- brushes for applying adhesive compositions;
- spatula for smoothing the roll coating;
- rags;
- tanks in which the primer structure will be mixed.
In the case of exposure to the floor only minor loads, instead of sticking the material to the floor, the edges of the webs are fixed. Modules are equipped with protrusions for docking. Connecting the modules, sealant produce sealing seams. In case of damage to the coating, replacement of the damaged fragment is performed, and the main part of the floor is not opened. The service life of such a flooring is at least ten years.
Laying modular rubber coatings does not require prior scrupulous treatment of the floor. Thanks to this, you can cut costs and save time.
The installation of the plates is carried out directly on the subfloor, without prior alignment.
The cost of the sector floor itself cannot be called small (about 1,200 rubles per square meter), but if you take into account its merits, lack of installation costs and a long service life, such garage coverage is cheap.
Before laying the roll floor, prepare the base. They make cleaning and priming of the subfloor with a special mixture, which consists of polyurethane glue with turpentine. The cost of the primer is about 300 grams per square meter. The rolls are placed on the surface of the base of concrete, after which they are left to lie for a number of days.
When laying the roll floor it is necessary to use polyurethane glue. Gluing begin to engage after the disappearance of the "waves" and the full straightening of the canvas. Glue is used to process the entire surface of the floor or only at the joints. As a rule, the thickness of such a coating is 6 millimeters.
The service life of this floor is at least 10 years.
Another type of rubber floor - self-leveling. Before you start installing such a coating, you should buy a specialized mix. It contains:
- modifiers;
- epoxy or polyurethane adhesive;
- variegated rubber crumb;
- coloring pigment.
The addition of the coloring pigment to the bulk coating mixture is carried out during the manufacturing process or with self-mixing of the working mixture. As for the modifiers, they are necessary to improve certain quality properties of the material.
All work is carried out according to the attached instructions. Completely bulk floor dries a maximum in a day.
In the course of work you will need these devices and tools:
- beacons;
- construction mixer;
- roller, roller or rakla;
- putty knife;
- pelvis or bucket for the preparation of the mixture;
- measured capacity.
First, you must prepare a rough floor, namely to perform its alignment, cleaning from dust and primer with polyurethane glue. After that, place on it temporary beacons. Having done all this, prepare a working mixture of glue and crumb in a ratio of 1: 7. Having done this, the liquid composition must be evenly distributed on the base in accordance with the instructions.
Laying this coating is recommended at a temperature of +15 degrees. The moisture content of the base of concrete should not exceed 4 percent.
If, however, the humidity still exceeds this indicator, then waterproofing should be laid under the liquid coating.
Laying the mixture is carried out, starting from the far garage wall and gradually moving towards the gate. The thickness of the required layer should not exceed one centimeter. You can check this by means of beacons or rakli.
During operation, the material should be leveled with a spatula. In the case of a huge garage area, the working compound is applied with a specialized spraying machine.
In order to apply the coating, it is also possible to resort to the spraying method, which enables the processing of inclined, horizontal and vertical surfaces. For example, a layer of rubber is applied on the lower part of the garage walls in order to provide protection from dirt and damage. Elastic waterproofing spraying cover the grounds.
The service life of the self-leveling floor is the same as that of a conventional coating - about ten years (if technological requirements are met).
Bulk floor is characterized by a considerable price,however, ease of installation and long service life completely compensate for it. It is usually used in places such as car boxes and athletic fields. For a garage, such coverage is just perfect. You can use it with confidence in your room.
Rubber coatings on the market of building materials are presented in a wide range at low cost.
