How to seal the hole in the stretch ceiling with your own hands?

Stretch coverings are a relatively inexpensive type of ceiling decoration, and in every room they look just perfect. And having addressed for installation services in the specialized companies, you will spend a minimum of the forces, time and in the financial plan you will be able to save. However, it will not be out of place to be able to do small-scale works on removing defects of the coating, for example, holes.

Compared to other ceiling design options, this is a relatively inexpensive look. In addition to the cost, good moisture resistance of the material and a sufficiently long service life can also be attributed to its advantages. For interior design offers a large selection of colors, thanks to which, you will be able to perfectly fit this ceiling covering in any room design.

But with such positive qualities, there are drawbacks to the stretch ceiling. After several years of operation, the coating may sag. It has a good sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. Such problems are mainly due to poor installation and the quality of the canvas. But the main problem lies in its weak strength.

During operation, due to various reasons, holes or cuts may appear on the surface, and if they are large, then the stretch ceiling will be completely replaced. In this case, neither stapling nor patching will help.

Basically, the appearance of punctures and various deformations on the tensioning material of the ceiling is promoted by elementary ignoring the operating conditions or violation of the technology of the work carried out and the use of low-quality material. The owners themselves sometimes cause damage to the ceiling.

• The appearance of a hole can contribute to the usual cork, emitted at the opening of champagne. The reason may be active children's games with tossing sharp and hard objects. Even a badly tossed ball can lead to deformation of the coating. It also happens that in the midst of a noisy party, one of the guests may accidentally jump up and punch a hole in the ceiling with his hand.
• Carrying out repair or installation work in the house also contributes to the occurrence of a high risk of breaking through or breaking through, for example, installing a cornice, moving high furniture or other similar structures, and much more.

Therefore, extreme care must be taken to prevent damage to your property. But the human factor is not the only option when you can ruin the surface of the stretch ceiling.

These reasons include:

• strong hauling material during installation;
• wrong cutting material;
• seams on the material that do not meet the quality standard;
• manufacturing defects.

If you yourself accidentally made a small incision or tore a cloth, you can eliminate the defect by yourself. This is not a very difficult type of repair, which may be necessary. And if you carefully approach this process (a small seam and an ideal paint in color), then the traces of your intervention will be almost invisible to the eyes.

For small cuts or breaks, prepare an adhesive tape, find matching synthetic threads, scissors, sewing needle,special glue, a piece of suitable fabric of a slightly larger size relative to the tear, a paint roller and paint to match the canvas.

The order is as follows:

• At the initial stage of the procedure for removing the hole, you need to carefully detach the coating in this place from the profile.
• Then the hole from the cut must be taped to prevent its increase. If the cut is less than two centimeters in length, it is carefully sewn with thread. When the diameter of the pierced hole is more than two centimeters, a patch for special glue is glued on either side.
• If there are cuts or broken places up to 30 cm, a patch is applied, which is sewn with a needle and thread. And the best way is to use a similar fabric, a piece of which could remain after the installation of a stretch ceiling. The patch must be cut a little larger diameter than the hole done.

• When gluing, it is better to use clear glue marks that do not harden when dried, but remain soft. For this option, "Moment" or any other rubber-based adhesive is best suited.
• To prevent the appearance of wrinkles on the canvas, the glued area must be gently smoothed, but not too hard to press on the edges, so you can deform the canvas.
• After the done operations, the ceiling covering is fixed back into place to the profile.
• Then you can begin to hide your work. When selecting a patch and thread it is very difficult to find a similar color and tone, therefore, the place of the applied patch must be painted over with a paint that matches the color of the ceiling canvas. For these purposes, it is advisable to apply a roller or spray gun, then the paint will lie evenly and help to hide the defect.

There is another good way to hide such holes - is to use a variety of luminous stickers. The glued application will not only hide the defect, but will also be a spectacular decoration of the ceiling covering. And so that it does not look too lonely on the ceiling, glue a few more similar applications around the perimeter of the ceiling. The resulting composition will give integrity and completeness to the ceiling decor.

Stretch ceiling made of polyvinyl chloride film is characterized by greater stability and durability compared to the fabric coating. And if you still managed to make a hole on it or tear it, then repair in this case will be much more difficult and will require certainskills and great accuracy.

The best way out of this situation would be to transfer the repair to the hands of specialists. They will carry out this procedure quickly, efficiently and with a guarantee. But if you have decided to perform repair work yourself, then prepare the necessary tools for this: building tape or insulating tape, scissors, household or building hair dryer, glue and self-adhesive application.

If a hole or incision is at a distance of no more than 150 mm from the baseboard, then they must first be sealed with tape to avoid more spread of the torn area. Then you need to disconnect the baseboard in front of the hole and with all the precautions to get the canvas from the profile. Using a hair dryer, heat the PVC sheet for several minutes, until it becomes flexible and resilient. Then it will be necessary to slowly and gently pull the coating to the wall until the hole is behind the profile. Then it remains only to install the baseboard in place and cut off the remaining film.

But this method is not suitable for hiding holes located at a distance of more than 15 cm from the wall: the risk of tearing the canvas is final.Such holes are hidden by self-adhesive application. Also in this way, do not hide the splayed fabric at the site of the seam. In this situation, you can hide a hole by attaching additional elements to this area: for example, a false fire alarm box, a ventilation window or a spotlight, or you can use an appliqué made of adhesive pictures.

To skillfully mask a torn or punched part of the canvas, you can use auxiliary fraudulent elements, thanks to which, a sense of the integrity of the stretch ceiling will be created. These can be the structures mentioned above and various decorative elements.

The easiest and most practical way to cover up the gust is with a decorative lamp. For its installation, you need a plastic ring, which is fixed so that the center of the hole is inside. A circle is cut inside the ring: this will prevent an increase in the torn hole.Then on the draft ceiling conduct wires for the future of the lamp, and pull the finishing cloth.

The base for the luminaire is groped and the cut-off point for the hole for the wire is marked with a marker, where a plastic ring is glued. Inside the ring, a hole is cut through, a wire is pulled out, and a lamp is attached.

A similar procedure is carried out in the case of bypass heating pipes that are in each room. To do this, a plastic ring is made of a slightly larger diameter than that of the pipe. The tensioning material is tucked into the baguette along the entire length, and the pipe is left at a distance of 20 cm on both sides. The ceiling fabric is cut from edge to pipe. Then a ring with a pre-made slot is put on the pipe and is tightly glued at the site of the incision.

All types of repair of the ceiling cloth should be treated with the utmost seriousness and accuracy. Any material of the stretch ceiling is very capricious, and with a small oversight, all the mistakes made immediately manifest themselves.

• When sealing torn sections, it is necessary to concentrate as much as possible on the process.
